MARC/AL Interface Utility V.4

(supports Auto Librarian™ SE and Version 4.0)

Product Fact Sheet

The MARC/AL™ Interface Utility is a utility which allows Auto Librarian Library Server SE and Ver. 4.0 users to read the USMARC/MicroLIF records included with the purchase of books from major book vendors such as Baker & Taylor, Brodart, Follett and others, thus eliminating the need to input manually, newly purchased books. This utility also enables users who have a union disk or MARC records from Bibliofile or another source to upload their books into AUTO LIBRARIAN Library Server Ver. 4.0 using the MARC record. This is an import feature only. The utility does not export AUTO LIBRARIAN™ book records into the MARC format.

FEATURES

Easy to Use Three Step Main Menu

AUTO LIBRARIAN™

MARC RECORD CONVERSION MENU

1. STEP 1 RECEIVE MARC RECORDS

2. STEP 2 VIEW CONVERTED MARC RECORDS

3. STEP 3 SEND MARC RECORDS TO AUTO LIBRARIAN

When using the MARC/AL Interface Utility the MARC records are not altered in any way. They are read and then converted into AUTO LIBRARIAN book records. The MARC record remains intact for later use.

The user basically fills in the following into input screens:

Drive, subdirectory and name of incoming file.
Drive, subdirectory and name of file to receive converted records.
Whether or not to generate book numbers on the fly.
Starting booknumber.
MARC field source for call number.
MARC subfield(s) source for call number.
MARC field source for Price.
MARC subfield source for Price.

To receive the MARC records into Auto Librarian™ the user simply begins with STEP 1 at the MAIN MENU and completes the Conversion Input Form (above). Step 2 allows the user to view the converted MARC records and edit them and Step 3 sends the converted MARC records to AUTO LIBRARIAN™ . Duplicate booknumbers are rejected. The MARC record information is brought into the new larger book database fields as well as Publisher, Illustrator, Pages and Cost fields. An onscreen Help window provides context sensitive help as each input is completed by the user. The MARC/AL Interface Utility is that easy to use!
